Flying Air China to Seoul: A Review of Air China

Recently I flew Air China from LAX to Seoul with a layover in Beijing. I scored a great deal paying only $425 for a round-trip ticket. I am always one to give an airline a try if I have never flown it before, especially at a great price like this one.

The ticket included one checked bag a person, as well as a carry on and personal item. Two meals were included on the first flight (LAX to PEK) and one meal on the shorter flight (PEK to ICH). They also had some snacks and drinks throughout the entire flight.

This flight ended up being a true economy experience. If the price is your only concern, it was a great choice but offered little in the way of creature comforts. There was a decent amount of legroom, but some seats had a box underneath the seat in front of you, which made it difficult to stretch out your legs. The bathrooms looked like that had not been cleaned in several years. I know bathrooms can get crazy on long-haul flights, but I felt like I could not even brush my teeth in these bathrooms.

Pros:

  • Price: You can’t beat a $425 long-haul flight!
  • The amount of food and drinks included. We did not go hungry and the food was decent airplane food.
  • Checked bag included.

Cons:

  • The bathrooms were quite dirty.
  • The plane was old and dated.
  • No amenities were given (sleep mask, headphones, etc).

Bottom Line: I would fly Air China for a great deal, but not if I had other choices at the same price point.
