Piazza Navona
The best place to start an evening in Rome is Piazza Navona. Piazza Navona is a popular plaza where the Ancient Romans once went to watch games and competitions. During the Renaissance, this square became decorated with art. The focal point of the square is the Fountain of Four Rivers by Bernini. This is the perfect first stop to enjoy a glass of wine and enjoy a conversation with friends.
The Pantheon
After Piazza Navona, walk over to the Pantheon. During Ancient Roman times, the Pantheon served as a temple to the gods. It is the best-preserved Ancient Roman monument. On any evening in Rome, visitors can find a ton of people strolling around the area.
The Trevi Fountain
From the Pantheon, it is a few blocks to the Trevi Fountain. Even in the evening in Rome, the Trevi Fountain is swamped with visitors. This massive fountain is 65 feet wide and 85 feet tall. Originally designed by Bernini, the plans fell apart and Nicola Salvi finished the designs. Make sure to through a coin in the fountain to ensure your return to Rome.
The Spanish Steps
The Spanish Steps were built to link the Trinité dei Monti church with the square below it. Take a stroll up the steps for a view of Rome. There is no eating and drinking allowed on the steps. It is now also not possible to sit on the Spanish Steps.
St. Peter’s Square
If you are up to it, take the metro or walk to St. Peter’s Square. It is a lot less crowded in the evening than at night. If you take the metro, get on at Spagna and take it 3 stops to Ottaviano. St. Peter’s square is located in Vatican City, the smallest country in the world. It is named after St. Peter’s Basilica and provides views of its namesake. Most Sundays, the pope can be viewed from this square.
