(Last Updated On: August 10, 2023)

Whenever I travel to a new city and I have the time, I love trying out different food tours, especially when it is a foodie city like Portland. With food tours, visitors get a good sampling of the cuisine of a city and also get to find out about a variety really awesome local places. One of the best food tours in Portland is with Portland by Mouth.

Why Take the Best Food Tour in Portland, Oregon?

I love taking food tours when traveling to get a good sample of the local cuisine and find some really awesome places to eat. Portland has an infinite amount of amazing restaurants to go to, so by going on a food tour, you really get to try out a lot of them in one go. It also makes for a fun Portland date idea!

The only downside of food tours is that they can sometimes be expensive and can take up a lot of time if you are short on time, especially if you only have a weekend in Portland. However, you usually get a lot of bang for your buck when taking a food tour, so that helps with the cost and takes the place of a meal.

Portland by Mouth is one of the best food tours in Portland because you get to visit a lot of places and you get a good sampling of food and beverages. You also get a nice tour of whichever neighborhood you choose as well!

Portland by Mouth Food Tours

Sherri, the owner of the company, has lived in Oregon for over 25 years and loves introducing people to the Portland food scene. She will be your guide on whichever of the three tours you choose.

I opted to go on the Vibrant Kerns Hood Food Tour. The other options include the Bustling Buckman Hood or a Brunch on Mississippi Tour. You can also opt to book a private tour if you prefer a more customized experience.

The tours will have anywhere from 2-10 people on them and will last 2.5-3 hours. You will get to stop at 5-6 different places and the stops fold out into a meal (starting with an appetizer and ending in a dessert).

Embarking on the Portland by Mouth Food Tour

In total, the Vibrant Kerns Food Tour made five different food stops and a couple of stops at local food stores. We sampled quite an array of food and drink throughout the tour, from a delicious torta to meatballs, and a savory crepe. Drinks included a Jamaica tea, Pina Colada, and Lavender Lemonade.

I really liked that there was a variety of food and beverage items you got to try along the tour, yet they all complimented each other. The torta was my absolute favorite and I had never had a torta that good. I also loved the Pina Colada and the Lavender Lemonade.

You will spend some time walking between each stop, but there was always a table to sit at upon arrival. I felt that you had plenty of time to eat at each stop and never felt rushed. There are also several bathroom options along the way.

Portland by Mouth is one of the best food tours in Portland due to the assortment of food and tours offered. I thought you got a lot of food during the tour and I left feeling so full. I also liked the food stops were broken up with short walks and stops in local shops.

Sherri gave a nice overview of the history of the area as well as Portland complete with some pictures for our reference. As a historian, I always love learning about local places. Sherri was excellent at sharing her knowledge and passion for the area

I appreciated there were options for people with dietary restrictions too. I would definitely recommend Portland by Mouth as one of the best food tours in Portland.
