Staying at the DoubleTree Resort Fiji is a great place for people looking for a relaxing getaway and a secluded destination. Not only was I able to book my stay at this resort using points, but this resort provided a gateway to other areas as part of a Fiji itinerary and made for a relaxing vacation.

Staying at the DoubleTree Resort Fiji: Location
The DoubleTree Resort Fiji is located about 12 miles (30 minutes) south of the Nadi International Airport. Visitors can opt to take a taxi, take a private shuttle, or rent a car. There is free parking at the resort. We opted to rent a car to have the flexibility to drive around the island and take day trips. I recommend renting a car through Economy Bookings as it will search all rental car companies for you.
Arrival at the DoubleTree Resort Fiji: Sonaisali Island
To get to the DoubleTree Resort Fiji: Sonaisali Island, you will have to take a short (3-5 minute) ride across a small inlet of water. The small boat runs consistently back and forth 24 hours a day. Upon arrival at the car park, the hotel workers will take care of loading and unloading all of your luggage and shuttle you across to the main resort area.
Once at the resort, there will be a golf cart to pick you and your luggage up to take you to the lobby to check-in. Even if you arrive prior to check-in time, you will have access to the resort amenities. Our flight arrived in Fiji in the morning, and we were able to relax at the pool by 10am.
As soon as your room is ready, the golf cart will take you to your room, and you can then unpack and enjoy the resort at your leisure.
DoubleTree Resort Fiji: Sonaisali Island Rooms
There are two main types of rooms when staying at the DoubleTree Resort Fiji: A Double Queen Beachfront Guestoom with a balcony or a King Ocean View Bure. The standard queen rooms are all attached to two main buildings near the lobby. These are the cheapest rooms to book
The King Ocean View Bure is the more luxurious of the two options. These rooms are spacious and come with your own deck to relax on. Two bures make up one building. These are located all around the resort.
Due to our Hilton Diamond Status, I originally booked a Double Queen Guestroom but was upgraded to a King Premium Ocean View Bure. Premium meant our Bure was in the front row, with a clear view of the ocean rather than a partial view of some of the Bures. From the research I did prior to the trip, it seems like as long as the resort is not completely sold out, you will get upgraded to a Bure.
Where to Eat at the DoubleTree Resort Fiji: Sonaisali Island
There are two main places to eat when staying at the DoubleTree Resort Fiji. Visitors can opt to choose from the Tavu Bar and Grill or Vulani. No matter which one you choose, there will be a ton of options for all pallets. If you opt not to eat at the resort all of the time (like us), check out these awesome places to eat in Nadi.
Vulani
Vulani is surrounded by a lagoon-style pool overlooking the ocean. It offers a variety of dishes -both local and regional. This restaurant is open for all meals. If you are a Hilton Gold or Diamond member, a daily buffet breakfast is included here as part of your stay. This was definitely a nice benefit, and it had a nice variety of options.
Tavu Bar and Grill
Tavu Bar and Grill is located on the beachfront and offers a relaxed dining experience with local and BBQ-style cuisines. You can also order items from here to enjoy while relaxing around the pool. The best feature might be the swim-up bar located as part of the pool.

Staying at the DoubleTree Resort Fiji makes for a relaxing vacation, especially with the amenities at the resort. The resort is surrounded by gorgeous palm trees. Scattered throughout the resort are various hammocks or lounge chairs to relax on.
Pool
When staying at the DoubleTree Resort Fiji, there is one gorgeous lagoon pool in the middle of the resort to take advantage of. It overlooks the ocean and is surrounded by a ton of lounge chairs and umbrellas. There are also various floaties like pool noodles to play with in the pool.
Beach
While the DoubleTree Resort Fiji does not have the biggest beach, if you walk to the far eastern side of the property (past a spooky abandoned building), there is a small beach. A pro of this is that people at the resort rarely spend time at the beach. We never saw anyone else there the couple of times we went.
Note that there are several signs that say to swim at your own risk. We opted to just relax on the beach and wade in the water because of this.
Store
There is a small store on the property that sells snacks, souvenirs, clothes, sundries, and other random things you may have forgotten. I found everything there on the pricier side, so try and get anything you may need while you are out.
Other Amenities
The resort also has a small fitness center, tennis courts, and a spa. You also have the option to book a variety of excursions or sightseeing tours through the resort, but I recommend booking them through Get Your Guide instead.
Final Thoughts on the DoubleTree Resort Fiji: Sonaisali Island
Overall, I felt that staying at the DoubleTree Resort Fiji was worth it if you are looking for a secluded getaway or have some Hilton Points to spare. If you want a better location, I would stay at the Hilton Fiji Beach Resort in Port Denarau. From there, you can walk to several restaurants for meals, and are close to the port, where it is easy to take day trips from Nadi.
If you have more time, visit the other side of Viti Levu and spend some time in Suva, the capital of Fiji.
