A two-day Prague itinerary makes for one of the best weekend trips, or you should add it to any Eastern European itinerary. It also pairs well with a trip to Budapest. No matter how many days you spend, there will be plenty of things to do in Prague.

History of Prague
The city of Prague began in the 800s when it became a cultural and political center in Europe. During the 1300s, the city flourished under the reign of Charles IV when it became the capital of the Holy Roman Empire. During this time, landmarks such as the Charles Bridge and the St. Vitus Cathedral were commissioned.
Prague saw a lot of tumultuous wars, and it played an important role in the Velvet Revolution of 1989, which ended the communist rule in Czechoslovakia. Today, Prague is known for its architecture, cultural heritage, and vibrant art scene.
When to Spend Two Days in Prague
Shoulder season is the best time to visit Prague if you want to avoid the crowds. However, no matter when you visit, each season brings something unique to enjoy. The weather is the best during the summertime, and it is less crowded than many other places in Europe. In the wintertime, there are many Winter Markets to explore.
How to Get to Prague
Prague has one international airport: Václav Havel Airport Prague. You can get flights here from all over Europe and a few places across Asia and the United States. Skyscanner is my favorite way to search for flights. Alternatively, many trains run from around Europe to the Prague Main Station. You can pre-book tickets on Trainline or Omio or opt to buy them at the station.
Transportation in Prague
Many of the main sites are walkable from one another, especially if you stay in Old Town. Prague is very accessible by public transportation as the tram runs throughout the city. You can pay per ride or buy a one- or three-day pass. Alternatively, you can buy tickets for the Hop On Hop Off Tram.
How to Get From the Airport to the City Center
To get from the airport to the city center of Prague, you can take Bus 59, which will take you to the Green Metro Line to the city center. This will take around 45 minutes. Alternatively, you can also get a private Prague airport transfer if you do not want to deal with public transportation. There are also taxis at the airport.
Where to Stay in Prague
The Old Town is the best area to stay in Prague. It is within walking distance of the majority of the main sites. The Hilton Prague Old Town would be my hotel of choice, but the Hilton Prague, Marriott Prague Hotel, and Andaz Prague are also good options.
Alternatively, TripAdvisor is a great place to start your hotel search. You can always try searching Priceline Express Deals for a better price or try to price match a hotel.

What to do During a Two-Day Prague Itinerary
Day 1
Prague Castle*

Start out this two-day Prague itinerary with a visit to the Prague Castle. The Prague Castle is a striking landmark of Prague that dominates the skyline. This giant castle complex is the largest ancient castle in the world. Founded in the 800s, it has served as the seat of many Czech kings over the years. It has been the site of two defenestrations (being thrown out of a window) in its history.
Present day, it is the headquarters for the president and attracts millions of visitors each year. Plan to spend several hours wandering around the complex. Inside the castle are exhibits going over the history of the castle. In addition, in the warmer weather, you will want to wander the grounds. You can also book a guided tour of the castle.
St. Vitus Cathedral

Hours: Mon-Sat: 9am-5pm, Sun: 12pm-5pm
The St. Vitus Cathedral is located within the Prague Castle complex. Construction on it began in 1344. Since then, the Cathedral has had many architectural styles and houses the tombs of many kings and Holy Roman Emperors.
This Cathedral used to serve as the place for coronations, and it currently serves as the seat for the Archbishop of Prague. Present-day, visitors can take in the tombs, spires, stained glass, and ornate carvings inside, so you will not want to miss adding it to a two-day Prague itinerary.
St. Nicholas Bell Tower

Next up on this two-day Prague itinerary is a stop at the St. Nicholas Bell Tower. This church was completed in 1855 and the bell tower stands 65 meters tall. It served as a church tower and a watch tower that offered panoramic views of Prague.
During the communist era, it housed a secret observation post. Present-day, visitors can climb the steep steps to the top to take in the stunning views.
Petrin Hill
Next up on this two-day Prague itinerary, head to Petrin Hill. This 327-meter hill is located in the center of Prague and offers panoramic views of the city. It has been a popular recreational spot since medieval times. Franz Kafka wrote about it in several of his books.
Present-day, there are a ton of things to do on Petrin Hill. First, it is home to the Petrin Lookout Tower, a smaller version of the Eiffel Tower built in 1891. If you climb to the top of this tower, you get great views of the city. Visitors can also check out the Hunger Wall, built in the 1300s to defend the city. Another popular stop is the Mirror Maze. In the warmer weather, make sure to stroll around the gardens to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Lenin Wall

The Lenin Wall is named in honor of John Lennon. It began as a simple wall with John Lennon’s image after his assassination and has turned into a vibrant mural. It has become a symbol of peace, love, and freedom. The mural is consistently painted over, so it can change with each visit and thus should be on any two-day Prague itinerary.
Charles Bridge

Next on this two-day Prague itinerary is a stop at the Charles Bridge. This icon of Prague was commissioned in 1357 by King Charles IV to replace an older bridge. This bridge is known for its Gothic design and the 30 Baroque statues added throughout the years. The Charles Bridge was the only way of crossing the river until 1841.
Today, it is a bustling pedestrian bridge that offers stunning views of Prague and connects the Prague Castle with the Old Town. Visitors can also opt to head up the Charles Bridge Towers or visit the Charles Bridge Museum.
Day 2
To start off day 2 of this two-day Prague itinerary, I recommend taking a Prague walking tour of Old Town*. This will allow you to learn the history of Prague and see many of the main sites. If you do not like guided tours, check out this Prague audio tour. Alternatively, you may want to go on a panoramic cruise.
Old Town Square
Next up on this two-day Prague itinerary is exploring Old Town Square. This is where the city’s most iconic and historical landmarks are located, and the square has been a hub for politics and culture in Prague. It has been witness to many significant events and celebrations.
In the square lie many marvels such as the Gothic Tyn Church, the St. Nicholas Church, and the Old Town Hall with its infamous Astronomical Clock. You can easily spend half a day exploring all of these buildings.
Old Town Hall

The Old Town Hall is a stunning example of Gothic architecture that was built in 1338. Inside, visitors can check out the historical chambers, the Old Council Hall, and the Chapel. Visitors can also climb the tower to take in the panoramic views of the city center.
This hall is known for its Astronomical Clock that was installed in 1410. It is the third-oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest still in operation. The designer of the clock was blinded after he made the clock so that no other clock could be as grand as this one. Each hour, visitors come to view the procession of the moving figures.
Powder Gate

Hours: 9am-8:30pm
Next, on this two-day Prague itinerary, make a quick stop at the Powder Gate, one of the city’s original entrance gates that once served as a ceremonial entrance. Its name originates from its use of the storage for gunpowder. Today, the powder gate is a historical landmark that visitors can head up to the observation deck to take in the views.
Museum of Communism

Hours: 9am-8pm
The Museum of Communism covers the history of communism in the Czech Republic (Czechoslovakia) and in Prague. It is located near the Old Town Square and contains many artifacts, photographs, and documents to tell this history. Visitors will spend at least an hour there learning about the communist past during this two-day Prague itinerary.
Jewish Quarter Ghetto (Josefov)*
To finish off the second day on this two-day Prague itinerary is a stop in the Jewish Quarter. Established in the 1200s, this area became the center of Jewish life. During the Nazi reign, this area was where all the Jews were required to live. Make sure to stop by the Old Jewish Cemetery, which is one of the largest in the world. There is also the Jewish Museum and synagogues located in this area. Opt to take a walking tour if you want to learn more about the history of the area.
Other fun things to do as part of a two-day Prague itinerary include the Franz Kafka Museum and the Beer Museum.
Final Tips for Two Days in Prague Itinerary
There are many amazing things to do on a two-day Prague itinerary. If you have more time, spend several more days in order to really take in the city. You should also add time in Budapest, Bratislava, and Vienna, along with a trip to Prague.
