Where to Stay in Denver

TripAdvisor is a great place to start your hotel search. Search for the best Denver hotels here!

Denver has so many awesome areas to stay in. The most convenient is Downtown Denver, but you can find some cheaper options right outside of Downtown Denver. If you get a rental car, I recommend staying right outside of Downtown so you do not have to pay for parking. Hotels I have previously stayed at include the Hampton Inn West Federal Center and the Hilton Garden Inn Denver/Thornton

Unique Things to Do in Denver for Couples

1. Have a Picnic at Wash Park

Wash Park is not only my favorite park in Denver but also one of the most beautiful and lively ones. You’ll find people running around with their dogs, playing volleyball, and sometimes even enjoying live music. It’s got ample open space for sun and plenty of trees for shade.

There is something so simply romantic about sitting on the green grass and having a picnic together. Plus, you can get a peak of the snow-capped mountains if you’re sitting in the right spot, thus making it one of the best unique things to do in Denver for couples.

When you’re done with lunch, take advantage of the two-mile loop that wraps around the park. There are two large lakes to walk around, with benches scattered throughout. It’s no Palm Beach Aruba, but it’s a pretty beautiful sight to behold just outside the main city.

2. Indoor Putt Putt in RiNo

PuttShack is definitely one of my favorite double date spots in town. It’s conveniently located a short walk away from downtown or RiNo. It has a full bar with food options, making it perfect for a full, fun night out.

Puttshack has putt-putt course options inside (great for a rainy evening), where you can enjoy a round of “tech-infused” minigolf while the course keeps track of your score. It is such a fun and unique things to do in Denver for couples.

For some extra fun, have options for bonuses and penalty shots so you can add some excitement to your game. The best part is that it’s super affordable, making it a unique and budget-friendly option for a memorable date night. You can definitely go with just you and your partner, but I find it to be the perfect spot to bring our friends too.

3. Watch the Sunset at Coor’s Field Rockie’s Game

Sports fans might consider going to the Rockie’s game for baseball, but for me, it’s all about the sunsets! Located right downtown, the Rockie’s stadium is easily accessible via the RTD train line or a quick walk from Union Station. A Rockie’s game is one of the best unique things to do in Denver for couples.

The stadium is beautiful, and the games are fun for a night out, but the sunset view over the mountains from the stadium is truly epic. Coor’s Field budget pro tip: head to the box office and grab rock pile tickets, which I’ve snagged for as low as $2. There are bars and restaurants inside and around the stadium, so there’s plenty to do before and after, too.

4. Grab a Drink at the Bar Above Union Station

Walk into Union Station, and you’ll be greeted to a wide-open, high-ceiling, renovated train station bustling with locals and travelers alike. The RTD train, busses, and Amtrak trains still run from here, but with the added bonus of coffee shops, seafood restaurants, and hidden bars! My favorite part? There’s a “hidden” bar on the second floor of Union Station! To find it, just make your way up the stairs by the Amtrak ticket counter.

Once you’re there, you can enjoy martinis, signature drinks, and a long wine list. It’s the perfect spot for a super classy first date or a pre-dinner drink with your partner. Bonus: they serve your drink with a little snacky. It is one of the fun unique things to do in Denver for couples.

5. Take a Bike Ride on the Cherry Creek Trail

For the active couple, Denver offers nearly 200 miles of bike trails and counting, both within its parks and alongside its roadways. One of our personal favorites is the Cherry Creek Trail, which provides a mix of shady and sunny spots along the way. It’s not too challenging; you’ll see other fellow bikers, walkers, and runners of all skill levels.

Moreover, the trail conveniently connects you to various attractions such as Empower Field at Mile High, the Denver Aquarium, and some fun breweries along the way. If you prefer longer journeys, you can bike all the way to Cherry Creek Shopping Center, where you can stop for a delicious lunch. With an impressive length of 40 miles, it’s unlikely you’ll complete the entire trail in one go.

6. Get Lost in Meow Wolf

Meow Wolf is one of Denver’s most unique and mind-boggling experiences. Their Convergence Station is an eclectic masterpiece filled with psychedelic art that will leave you puzzled. It is definitely one of the unique things to do in Denver for couples.

The artwork is so expansive that you can actually get lost in it (I have). Meow Wolf only has four locations across the US – Denver’s Meow Wolf stands as the largest. If you’re tired of regular dates, this is sure to add a little [confusing] excitement to your life.

7. See a Show at Empower Field

Empower Field, conveniently reachable by foot, bike, or train, offers more than just thrilling football games in Denver. This versatile venue hosts a variety of events, including artists like Foo Fighters and Kenney Chesney, Monster Jam, and BBQ Fest.

Similar to Coor’s Field, the breathtaking view of the mountains and sunset adds to the charm of Empower at Mile High. Treat your partner and yourself out for a fun concert right downtown at Empower Field. It is one of the fun and unique things to do in Denver for couples.

8. Go for a Hike!

Did you know that there are tons of hikes within a 20-30 minute drive of Denver? And if you prefer to stay within the city, there are also plenty of walking trails around all the parks in Denver, like Wash Park, City Park, and Cherry Creek.

My favorite thing about these they surround and pass through lakes and rivers. As we’re used to spending our summers snorkeling in the Caribbean, finding water near us was a must. I wouldn’t suggest swimming around the city, but I’ll take what I can get.

Some of my favorite trails are the ones that surround the area. Hiking is one of our preferred ways to kickstart the day or reflect while watching the sunset after a long day of working apart. It is one of the best unique things to do in Denver for couples.

Here are a few of my favorites that will take you a little while out of the city:

  • Red Rocks and Morrison (very little shade around these)
  • Lookout Mountain (great for sunset!)
  • Mount Falcon Castle Loop (a bit of shade, but mostly a hot open trail)
  • Chavez and Beaver Brook (shaded, great for dogs)

9. Head to the Denver Comedy Club for Some Laughs

A comedy show is a great way to enjoy some laughs with your partner. It’s a fun and relaxed way to spend an evening, and laughing is the best way to connect with each other. I also love finding things to do in Denver that don’t require alcohol. They serve food and drinks here, but it’s not a necessity.

Denver Comedy Club hosts a variety of comedians, from local up-and-comers to national headliners. You might be surprised to find out that these shows actually sell out, so you’ll have to buy your tickets at least 2-3 days ahead of time, usually.

10. Go to a Dance Class

This was a new one for us – we recently took our first Tango class at Tango Colorado. I was super nervous but had a ton of fun! It was affordable and a super unique date night. We met a ton of new people after just one class. You don’t actually need a partner to go, but it’s a fun option for couples looking to learn something new together and, thus one of the best unique things to do in Denver for couples.

11. Head to a Show at Red Rocks

Red Rocks is renowned as the most attended venue worldwide. This open-air amphitheater has become the dream stage for countless artists. Whether you’re into DJs, alternative music, pop, or country, you’ll find a show that suits your taste. Red Rocks is a bucket list item for people from all corners of the globe. If you happen to be in Denver, making the trip is definitely a must-do.

12. Spend the Day Sightseeing

A big blue bear looking in a window. #denver #colorado #unitedstates

Yep! Denver offers plenty of sightseeing opportunities for visitors and locals alike. Start by taking a stroll around downtown, where you can experience standing one mile high at the steps of the Colorado State Capitol.

Make your way to visit the Big Blue Bear near Larimer Square, two popular spots. The Big Blue Bear is mostly a photo opportunity, but Larimer Square is filled with restaurants, a fun thrift store, outdoor bars, and brightly lit decorations.

There are numerous must-see attractions in Denver that can easily fill up your entire day. In addition to these favorite spots of mine, the city also has amusement parks, Denver Aquarium, museums, Denver Botanic Gardens, and much more for you to hit. No matter what, you will find many fun and unique things to do in Denver for couples.

13.  Movie Night at McGregor Square

During the summer, McGregor Square offers a movie night series on a giant screen right in the square. You can spread out and relax on the patch of grass or at the tables set up.

To make it even better, there are plenty of restaurants nearby, like Tom’s Watch Bar, and even an outdoor bar, so you don’t have to go far for your next drink. Get cozy and enjoy a fun movie night downtown!

Hike Manitou Incline in Colorado Springs

A steep climb up some stairs with a view of trees. #denver #colorado #unitedstates

Ready for a little competition with your partner? Head out on an adventure to Manitou Incline. It’s one of the most challenging hikes I’ve done since moving to Colorado. With 2744 steps and a 2000 ft. elevation change in just one mile, it’s a serious test of endurance.

But, “why bother?” as my mother says. It’s kind of a rite of passage in Colorado. And the views along the way are worth it. When you finally reach the top, you feel like you’re on top of the world. And if that’s not enough, you’ll also get a view of Pikes Peak that you can’t get anywhere else.

Reservations are required, but they’re free to make. I’d highly suggest opting to start this hike early in the morning or before sunset. It may take about 3-4 hours, but trust me, it’s totally worth it.

Go Camping

A view of sunset and trees. #denver #colorado #unitedstates

Last but not least, one of the main reasons I love living here – the easy accessibility to the mountains and the endless opportunities for exploration in the woods. In Colorado, there are so many campsites, dispersed camping areas, and public land available that I could go camping every weekend and still not experience them all.

The wildlife, aspen trees, wildflowers, and beautiful rivers running through the mountains make this place a dream come true for outdoor couples. One of my favorite parts of camping in Denver is the lack of humidity and bugs, unlike my part-time home in the Caribbean. Whether you choose to visit Rocky Mountain National Park on your own or with this tour, or venture off-grid to find a hidden gem, Colorado is a camper’s paradise.
