Wine Tasting in Temecula: 5+ of the Best Wineries to Visit

Temecula, one of the wine regions in California is a rather young and up and coming area for wine. Located between Los Angeles and San Diego, wine tasting in Temecula is an easy stop along a California road trip. The area contains more than 40 wineries and has produced wine since the 1700s. However, it has only become more popular in recent years and produces many Italian, French, and Spanish varietals. The following are some of the best wineries to go wine tasting in Temecula.

Avensole Winery

Cost: $23 Wine Flight

Hours: 11am-5pm

Best Wine(s): Brooke Rose and Syrah

Avensole was a fantastic place to go wine tasting in Temecula. This property first planted grapes in 1969 but did not expand until 1986. However, the Avensole winery did not come to be until 2014 when it was purchased by its current owners. I loved that this winery had wine flights, so all the wine was brought out to you at once (and they were pretty large pours). They have an all white, and all red, or a mixed flight. I enjoyed pretty much every wine I tried and felt it was well worth the $23 price. 

Bel Vino

Cost: $15 Tasting

Hours: Sun-Thurs: 11am-5pm, Fri: 11am-8pm, Sat: 10am-8pm

Best Wine(s): Field Blend and Butterfly Effect Rose

Bel Vino is a more recent Temecula discovery and a delicious place for wine tasting in Temecula. This 40-acre winery has been in business since 1996, but it was taken over by new owners in 2011. They offer a TON of different wines, it just varies on what they have in stock. I really enjoyed a lot of their white wines. Bel Vino has excellent views, hosts live music on the weekends, and sometimes has movie nights. They also have an entire house on the property you can rent out that sleeps up to 10 people. Briar Rose

Cost: $25 Tasting

Hours: Fri-Sun: 12pm-5pm

Best Wine(s): Citronier and Mission

If you love Disney, you will love a visit to Briar Rose Winery. It is such a unique winery to go wine tasting in Temecula. The original owner of the winery used to work for Disney and built a replica of Snow White’s Cottage on the property. In the 1990s, the estate was sold and the new owners began growing wine on the property. Finally in 2007, the winery opened for visitors and tastings. I preferred their white wines to their red wines.  One of the most unique wines I have ever had, the mission, is special because the grapes were only grown in the California missions. I also thought the Citronier was a nice drinkable light wine for summertime. 

Leoness

Cost: $27 Tasting

Hours: Sun-Thurs: 11:30am-5pm, Fri-Sat: 11:30am-6pm

Best Wine(s): Cabernet Sauvignon

Another fabulous choice to go wine tasting in Temecula is Leoness. Leoness began as a farm in the 1970s. In 2002, it shifted into a winery and has been going strong ever since. Leoness produces many different varietals but produces the most of Cabernet Sauvignon with over 20 acres of grapes devoted to that wine. I do not think I have had a wine I did not like from Leoness. They are the perfect wines for sitting on the patio and sipping on a cool day. I also love eating at the restaurant on the property. The duck fat fries are so delicious and pair well with the wines.

Masia de la Vinya

Cost: $20 Tasting

Hours: Wed-Sun: 11am-5pm

Best Wine(s): Muscat Canelli

Masia de la Vinya, founded by the owner of Danza del Sol is a boutique winery that mainly produces unique Spanish style wines. This is one of the smaller wineries in Temecula, as it only contains 10-acres. It offers awesome panoramic views to take in while sipping on your wines. Throughout the year, sometimes they have special events such as concerts. Their Muscat Canelli makes an awesome white Sangria. 

Robert Renzoni

Cost: $19 Tasting

Hours: 11am-6pm

Best Wine(s): Concerto

Winemaking in the Renzoni family dates back to 1886 when the family grew wine in Italy. Throughout the years, the family grew wine in several places until they settled in Temecula in 2004. In 2006, they purchased the currency property and in 2008 opened up the Robert Renzoni Winery. I love all of their red wines and many of them make me think I am back in Italy wine tasting. Renzoni might be my favorite place to go wine tasting in Temecula. 

Other popular wineries to visit in Temecula include Europa Village, Miramonte, Wilson Creek, Ponte, and South Coast Winery. No matter what, you will find some unique and delicious wines when wine tasting in Temecula. Outside of Temecula, California has other awesome wine regions. My favorite, Paso Robles is the perfect weekend vacation. You also cannot go wrong when visiting Napa and Sonoma.
