You will want a car to get around the park, and I recommend staying at least two days. Definitely stay at Murphy’s River Lodge, which is right outside the entrance to the park and super affordable.
Hiking-wise, visitors should for sure do the Emerald Lake trail. This trail goes around four different lakes and has the most gorgeous views at each lake. Another good hike is Alberta Falls, but the falls may not be going too strong depending on when you visit in the fall. As recommended above, Trail Ridge Road will offer the best views for the fall colors.

Another fun area is Paso Robles. You can find a ton of excellent wineries in Paso Robles, and well as many other awesome things to do (like hot springs). Outside of California, the Willamette Valley is a great destination for wine lovers in the fall. The Willamette Valley is located right outside of Portland, which has some of the best food in the country.
